Full Cast Announced for Ghosts at Lyric Hammersmith
The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre has unveiled the complete cast and creative team for its new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts, written by Gary Owen. The production, which runs from 10 April to 10 May 2025, is set in present-day England and will be directed by Rachel O’Riordan.

Smurfit expressed her enthusiasm for joining the Lyric and working under O’Riordan’s direction, stating:
"This is a wish I had not been brave enough to wish for, but one I am thrilled has now come true!"

A Modern Take on Ibsen’s Classic
Owen’s adaptation reframes Ghosts for contemporary audiences, shifting the play’s setting to modern-day England. The narrative follows Helena, a woman dedicated to upholding the legacy of her late husband as she prepares for the grand opening of a children’s hospital named in his honour. However, her son Oz’s return home sparks hidden family tensions, threatening to unravel carefully guarded secrets.
