John Lithgow Reprises Role as Roald Dahl in Acclaimed Play Giant
The critically acclaimed play Giant, featuring John Lithgow as Roald Dahl, will transfer to the West End in 2025 following its sold-out debut at the Royal Court Theatre. Written by Mark Rosenblatt and directed by Nicholas Hytner, the production explores a pivotal moment in the life of one of Britain’s most celebrated yet controversial authors.
The play is set in 1983, as Dahl faces backlash for recent antisemitic comments, coinciding with the impending publication of The Witches. Over the course of a single afternoon, Giant examines themes of accountability, public rhetoric, and the enduring consequences of one’s words.
Giant will run at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 26th April to 2nd August 2025, with an official opening night on 1st May 2025. Tickets will be available for purchase soon, and demand is expected to be high following the play’s initial success.
Joining Lithgow in the production is Elliot Levey, reprising his role as Tom Maschler, while additional casting details will be announced in due course.
The production boasts an outstanding creative team, including:
Nicholas Hytner (Director)
