Maiden Voyage: A New Musical at the Southwark Playhouse
Mark Cortale, Dale Franzen, Jonathan Murray, and Harvey Reese are proud to announce the world première of Maiden Voyage, a new musical in association with Shared Experience. The production, premiering at Southwark Playhouse Elephant in London, tells the inspirational true story of Tracy Edwards, who led the first all-female crew in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race of 1989-90.
The Story of Tracy Edwards and Maiden Voyage
Set against the backdrop of the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, Maiden Voyage follows Tracy Edwards' remarkable journey. A young high-school dropout and galley cook, Tracy Edwards became the skipper and navigator of the groundbreaking all-female crew that competed in the famous yacht race. This musical about female empowerment explores Tracy’s determination and how a chance meeting with King Hussein of Jordan helped her pursue this dream against all odds.
The musical features book and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein and music by Carmel Dean, bringing Tracy's extraordinary journey to life through breathtaking performances and stirring songs.

The Cast and Creative Team of Maiden Voyage
The show features a talented creative team, including director Tara Overfield Wilkinson, who brings her 35 years of musical theatre experience to this production. The orchestrations are by Michael Starobin, and Harry Blumenau is the casting director.
