Tick, Tick… Boom! Announces Full Cast at Theatr Clwyd
Jonathan Larson’s Iconic Musical Returns
Theatr Clwyd has revealed the full cast for its highly anticipated revival of tick, tick… Boom!, directed by its new artistic director, Kate Wasserberg. This production not only marks Wasserberg’s first at the North Wales venue but also serves as the theatre’s grand reopening following a major redevelopment.
Cast for Tick, Tick… Boom! at Theatr Clwyd
Taking on the lead role of Jon, a struggling composer on the brink of turning 30, will be Ryan Owen. Joining him are Christina Modestou as Susan and Tarik Frimpong as Michael. The trio will bring to life Jonathan Larson’s semi-autobiographical rock musical about artistic ambition, love, and the pressures of making life-changing decisions.
Director’s Vision for the Revival
Wasserberg expressed her excitement for the production, stating:
“We are delighted to begin a new era at Theatr Clwyd with such a fantastic show and such an amazing cast. Ryan Owen and Christina Modestou are two of Wales’ most exciting musical theatre talents, and they are joined by the acclaimed Tarik Frimpong, who brings a wealth of international experience.
I am incredibly excited at the prospect of unveiling the redeveloped theatre to our audiences with tick, tick… Boom!. It is an apt title for this long-awaited moment.”
About Tick, Tick… Boom!
Originally written by Jonathan Larson, the creator of Rent, the musical follows Jon, a struggling composer waiting for his big break. Stuck in a day job while working tirelessly on his own project, he feels increasing pressure from his girlfriend Susan, who longs for a stable life, and his best friend Michael, who has chosen a lucrative career path. As his 30th birthday looms, Jon must decide whether to continue chasing his Broadway dreams or step away from his passion.
With its mix of rock, pop, and heartfelt storytelling, tick, tick… Boom! has become a beloved piece of musical theatre, gaining renewed attention following its Netflix film adaptation starring Andrew Garfield.
Tick, Tick… Boom! – Theatr Clwyd 2025 Dates
The show will open on 2 June 2025 at Theatr Clwyd in Mold, Wales, offering audiences the first major musical in the newly redeveloped venue.
