A Man for All Seasons to Run at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre This Summer

A Man for All Seasons, the Martin Shaw-led production, will enjoy a limited run at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre this summer, following a successful UK tour earlier this year. The production is based on Robert Bolt’s classic play, which explores the dramatic events surrounding Henry VIII’s demand for a divorce from Catherine of Aragon, leading to the creation of the Church of England and the king’s marriage to Anne Boleyn. The play highlights the extraordinary defiance of Thomas More, Lord Chancellor and devout Catholic, in the face of the king’s demands.

About A Man for All Seasons – The Play

A Man for All Seasons is set against the backdrop of the 16th-century English court, where Thomas More’s moral and religious beliefs lead him to stand up against the king’s wishes. As Henry VIII seeks a divorce, More’s refusal to support the king’s actions results in his imprisonment and eventual execution. The play is a powerful portrayal of the tension between loyalty, faith, and political power.

Martin Shaw Returns as Thomas More

Martin Shaw will reprise his role as Thomas More, a part he is widely known for. Shaw’s impressive stage credits include Hobson’s Choice, The Best Man, and Twelve Angry Men, making his return to the stage in the iconic role of the Lord Chancellor and friend to King Henry VIII a highly anticipated event.

The cast also includes Gary Wilmot, who will join the production for the new run, along with Edward Bennett, Nicholas Day, Calum Finlay, Orlando James, Hari Kang, Asif Khan, Annie Kingsnorth, Sam Parks, Sam Phillips, and Louisa Sextona. Additional cast members will be announced closer to the production’s opening.
