New Cast Announced for The Lion King West End Production
Disney has revealed exciting new casting for the long-running and beloved stage adaptation of The Lion King, which continues its successful run at the Lyceum Theatre in London's West End. Julie Taymor’s visionary production, based on the iconic Disney animated film, first opened on Broadway in 1997 before arriving in the West End two years later.
Milestones for The Lion King in London
In just a few weeks, the production welcomed its 20 millionth guest and celebrated its 25th anniversary with memorable events. Additionally, the musical recently marked an incredible milestone with its 10,000th performance in London, further cementing its place as one of the West End’s most beloved shows.
New Cast Members Joining The Lion King from 6 May 2025
The production has confirmed new casting, with Stephenson Ardern-Sodje returning to the role of Simba from 6 May 2025 to 28 September 2025. Ardern-Sodje previously played Simba on the UK and Ireland tour. He will be succeeded by Hope Maine, who will play Simba until 25 January 2026.
Ardern-Sodje shared his excitement about returning to the role:
“I am delighted to be returning to the Pridelands as Simba, having previously had the joy of playing the role on the UK and Ireland tour. Joining the iconic London production at the Lyceum Theatre, which recently celebrated its 10,000th performance, is a dream come true.”

Pierre van Heerden as Pumba, a role he previously played on the International Tour
Sadia McEwen as Shenzi, who is currently playing Sarabi in the London production
