Park Theatre Announces Five New Shows for 2025/2026 Season

Park Theatre has revealed its exciting 2025/2026 season, which includes a diverse mix of new writing, revivals, and a special fundraising evening. Highlights include the winner of the Papatango New Writing Prize, The Meat Kings! (Inc.) Of Brooklyn Heights, and two significant revivals of classic plays: Noël Coward’s The Rat Trap and Athol Fugard’s The Train Driver. The season also features Steel, a national tour production by Theatre by the Lake, and an unforgettable evening of poetry and jazz with Maureen Lipman & Friends.

Theatre by the Lake’s Steel Comes to Park Theatre

Steel by Lee Mattinson is part of its national tour and will play at Park Theatre from 11 to 14 June 2025. Set in West Cumbria, the play follows two friends, James and Kamran, as they uncover their own identities while navigating a wild town of drag queens, carnival vibes, and even a zombie Princess Diana. In a town once thriving with coal seams and industry, the play explores themes of manhood, identity, and first love, set against the backdrop of a once-booming community.

Maureen Lipman & Friends: Poetry & Jazz Fundraiser

In a one-night-only event, Maureen Lipman & Friends will host an evening of poetry and jazz on 11 May 2025. This fundraiser will feature performances by renowned British poets Jeremy Robson and Pauline Prior-Pitt, alongside award-winning vocalist Jacqui Dankworth and jazz pianist Charlie Wood. With Thelma Ruby also appearing, this stellar event supports Park Theatre’s community outreach programs, including initiatives for those living with dementia and their carers, along with access performances for all shows at the theatre.

New Writing: The Meat Kings! (Inc.) Of Brooklyn Heights

In partnership with Papatango Theatre Company, Park Theatre will present The Meat Kings! (Inc.) Of Brooklyn Heights by Hannah Doran from 30 October to 29 November 2025. This Papatango New Writing Prize winner delves into America’s complex anti-immigration policies, following a summer hire named T working at an iconic butcher shop in Brooklyn Heights. As she navigates relationships, competition, and desires, the play explores the sacrifices made in pursuit of the American Dream.

The Train Driver: A Revival of Athol Fugard’s Masterpiece

From 14 January to 7 February 2026, Park Theatre will stage Athol Fugard’s The Train Driver. Based on true events in South Africa, the play explores themes of guilt, racial intolerance, and human connection. Following a tragic incident on the tracks, the play follows Roelf, the train driver, as he embarks on a journey of self-reflection and encounters Simon, an old gravedigger who helps him unburden his conscience. A powerful revival celebrating Fugard’s legacy.

Noël Coward’s The Rat Trap Celebrates 100th Anniversary

In January 2026, Troupe Theatre returns to Park Theatre with a stylish period revival of Noël Coward’s The Rat Trap to mark its 100th anniversary. Set in 1920s Belgravia, this play follows Sheila, a talented novelist, and Keld, an ambitious playwright, navigating jealousy, professional rivalry, and a devastating affair that tears their marriage apart. Troupe previously delighted audiences with their adaptation of The Forsyte Saga, and their return with Coward’s sharp social commentary promises to be a highlight of 2026.
