Sing Street: A New Musical, based on the beloved coming-of-age film by John Carney, will make its highly anticipated UK premiere this summer at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. The show, a stage adaptation of the 2016 film, brings the story of a 16-year-old Dubliner trying to form a band in the 1980s to life through powerful new music and lyrics. The musical was first seen in Boston and New York before the pandemic halted its Broadway debut, and now it is ready to captivate London audiences.

Cast of Sing Street: A New Musical Revealed

The exciting initial cast for Sing Street: A New Musical has been announced, with Adam Hunter making his musical theatre debut in the role of Brendan, a character who plays a pivotal role in helping the protagonist, Conor, navigate his teenage years and form his dream band. Hunter has a special connection to the musical, as he featured prominently on the original soundtrack for the film.

Sing Street has followed me throughout my career. Now, to be making my live theatre debut with this beautiful stage adaptation, featuring an incredible set of songs from the movie and brand-new music for the stage, is a dream.”

About the Musical and Its Development

Sing Street: A New Musical features a book by Enda Walsh, renowned for his work on Once (the stage version of Carney’s other film), and music and lyrics by Gary Clark and John Carney. The musical retains the original heart and spirit of the film while adding fresh elements for the stage. The direction is helmed by Rebecca Taichman, who previously oversaw the New York and Boston productions, ensuring the show’s distinctive energy and charm is carried over to its new UK premiere.

Choreography is by Sonya Tayeh, with Bob Crowley designing the production. The show’s casting has been managed by Stuart Burt, known for his work on many high-profile productions.
