Bush Theatre Announces 2025/26 Season – The Last Under Artistic Director Lynette Linton

The Bush Theatre has unveiled its exciting 2025/26 season, which will be the final one programmed by Lynette Linton, the outgoing artistic director. Linton’s tenure will conclude as Taio Lawson steps into the role, ushering in a new era for the theatre.

2025/26 Main House Season Highlights

The main house season will begin with Miss Myrtle’s Garden (31 May to 12 July), a thought-provoking play by Danny James King, directed by Taio Lawson. The story follows an elderly woman grappling with the transformation of her neighbourhood and confronting the ghosts of her past.

Next, the Bush Young Company returns with its fifth main-house production, Make Me Feel by Will Jackson, directed by Katie Greenall (19 to 23 August). This production will continue the company’s tradition of innovative work, offering an exciting showcase of emerging talent.

Superwoman Schema – A Powerful New Drama

Following that, Superwoman Schema (6 September to 25 October) is a new play by Emma Dennis-Edwards, starring Golda Rosheuvel and Letitia Wright. Directed by Lynette Linton, the production explores the intricate dynamics between a mother and daughter after the death of their family matriarch, delving into themes of grief and family bonds.

After Sunday – A Co-Commission with Coventry Belgrade Theatre

The season will close in 2025 with After Sunday (10 November to 20 December), a co-commission with Coventry Belgrade Theatre. Set in a Caribbean cooking class within a secure hospital, this production examines life, identity, and healing in a unique and immersive setting.

2026 Productions: Sweetmeats and HEART WALL

In 2026, the season continues with Sweetmeats (7 February to 21 March), a co-production with Tara Theatre. This production tells the story of two South Asian elders navigating an unexpected romance, touching on themes of love, culture, and self-discovery.

The season also features HEART WALL (4 April to 16 May), a piece by Kit Withington, a Bush Writers’ Group alumnus. Co-commissioned with Oldham Coliseum, this production delves into family secrets and the challenges of returning home as an adult.

Bush Theatre Studio: New Works from Emerging Talent

The Bush Theatre Studio will host a range of exciting works from both emerging and established theatre-makers. Notable highlights include:

  • Insane Asylum Seekers by Laith Elzubaidi

  • Horse of Jenin by Palestinian performer Alaa Shehada

  • Maggots by Farah Najib

The ALT B season will also continue, providing an important platform for artists working across various disciplines.

New Website and More £15 Tickets

The Bush Theatre will launch a new website alongside the season, enhancing the experience for visitors. Additionally, the theatre will increase the availability of £15 tickets, making the arts more accessible to a wider audience.

Lynette Linton Reflects on Her Time at the Bush Theatre

Lynette Linton shared her thoughts on her final season at the theatre:

“Running the Bush Theatre for the last six years has been one of the biggest honours of my life, and I am so proud of all the incredible artists who have passed through the building. Dan and I wanted to disrupt the canon, and I believe we have done just that with over 50 productions from the most incredible British and Irish writers!”

Linton also expressed her excitement for the future:

“I am so proud of our wonderful last season, with more £15 tickets than ever, and I can’t wait to see all these wonderful artists grace the legendary Bush stage… also big up to the new artistic director, Taio Lawson – I can’t wait to witness Bush Theatre’s new chapter.”
