This production marks the first time the mother/daughter duo will appear onstage together, playing the iconic roles of Mrs Kitty Warren and Vivie Warren in one of Shaw’s most provocative plays.

Imelda Staunton and Bessie Carter in Mrs Warren’s Profession

Staunton, known for her WhatsOnStage and Olivier Award-winning performances, will star as Mrs Kitty Warren, with her daughter, Bessie Carter, taking on the role of Vivie Warren. This reunion onstage promises to bring a fresh and compelling dynamic to Shaw’s classic play, which has long been admired for its critique of class, morality, and hypocrisy.

About Mrs Warren’s Profession

Mrs Warren’s Profession is one of Shaw’s most controversial works, famously banned for 30 years by the Lord Chamberlain due to its bold exploration of sexual morality and class corruption. The play critiques the English class system and challenges social conventions, making it both daring and thought-provoking. The new revival of this seminal work will be directed by Dominic Cooke, a longtime collaborator with Staunton from their work on Hello, Dolly! and Follies.
