Cast Announced for Flumps at Mercury Theatre

The Mercury Theatre in Colchester is gearing up for the world premiere of Flumps, a compelling new play by Essex-based playwright Emma Jo Pallett. Set to run from 6 to 14 June in the venue’s Studio space, Flumps explores the complexities of family dynamics, survival, and resilience through the lens of two siblings.

The Story of Flumps

Flumps follows the lives of Felicity and Harvey, siblings who are left to fend for themselves during a long, challenging summer. With their mother struggling with drug addiction, the children find themselves in a precarious situation, left alone in a caravan with limited resources. In their efforts to survive, they devise a plan to keep the gas running, avoid detection from social services, and maintain a steady supply of marshmallows. The play is a poignant exploration of childhood, responsibility, and the lengths siblings will go to protect one another in dire circumstances.

Full Cast for Flumps

The cast features Jadie Rose Hobson, known for her work in The Trial of Josie K, as Felicity, and Robyn Holdaway, who has appeared in Sex Education and Moonhaven, as Harvey. Together, Hobson and Holdaway will bring the emotional depth and complexity of these sibling characters to life, capturing the struggles of growing up amidst adversity.

The Creative Team Behind Flumps

Directed by Madelaine Moore, artistic director of The Thelmas, Flumps features a talented creative team. The set and costume design is by Mikayla Teodoro, with William Hamilton Tighe serving as associate designer. The lighting design is by Megan Lucas, while Jess Mabel Jones brings her expertise in movement and puppetry to the production, adding an imaginative layer to the storytelling.

A Mercury Original Production

Presented as a Mercury Original in association with The Thelmas, Flumps is part of the Mercury Playwrights programme. This marks the seventh production written by a playwright from the programme to be staged since 2021, highlighting the Mercury Theatre’s ongoing commitment to fostering new and exciting voices in theatre. Two more works from the scheme are currently in development, with eight additional plays receiving research and development support under the guidance of literary associate Kenny Emson.
